COVID-19 Update

In light of the COVID-19 situation, RCDWR is taking precautions in our department to keep employees healthy and help prevent illness in our workplace and the community. We are monitoring the impacts of the situation and will adjust accordingly. If changes are made, we will post notifications on the RCDWR home page and via social media.

Although the situation could change as new information is obtained, at this time, the following RCDWR activities remain active, following all safety and health guidelines:

  • Landfill operations, with the exception of Saturdays closures at the Oasis landfill as noted below.

Among precautionary measures at this time:

  • Effective March 25, 2020, the Oasis landfill will be closed on Saturdays.  Alternate Saturday only disposal locations can be found HERE.
  • Effective March 25, 2020, Badlands, Lamb Canyon, and El Sobrante landfills will no longer accept cash payments.  Credit cards, debit cards and deferred payment business accounts are still accepted.
  • The Department's Moreno Valley Headquarters is closed to in-person visits effective 03/18/2020.  The public can contact the department through its website or call 951-486-3200.
  • Community Cleanups are cancelled through April 2020
  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection events cancelled through April 2020.
  • Drop & Shops will be closed through April 2020.
  • Community Outreach Classes have been cancelled through April 2020.
  • Lamb Canyon education center visits have been cancelled.
  • Moreno Valley resource garden visits have been cancelled.
  • Community exhibitor attendance has been cancelled.
  • Speaking engagements have been cancelled.
  • Requests for speaking engagements, community exhibitor attendance, and education center and resource garden visits will continue to be accepted and RCDWR will contact requestors when scheduling resumes.

Come learn how we can work together to divert more waste, reduce at the source and be part of the solution to save our environment.  See what happens to recycled materials and hear about all the programs the county offers to help you become a better recycler.  Plus, share your success stories so that we can learn new ways to recycle together.

Green Cleaning

Make your own household cleaners that help the earth and your pocketbook

Clean your kitchen, floors, carpet, windows and bath without relying on hazardous toxic materials. We give you recipes for various cleaning supplies that will affordably replace all the chemicals you may be currently using.  Parents and pet owners love it. Why worry about toxic materials in your house or the landfill when there are safe cleaners that are just as effective?

Food Waste

Learn how your school or organization can waste less and help more

Food waste accounts for 15% of what goes into the landfill.  There is a better use for food and a better way to manage food waste that includes prevention, sharing, recovery and composting.  Learn about these vital steps and start wasting less food while doing more for the environment and your community

Household Hazardous Waste

Learn how to manage hazardous waste safely and responsibly

We all have household hazardous waste.  It is usually associated with all those items you store under the sink or in your gararage.  You use them to clean, clear, fertilize, sterilize and repair for all those DIY projects around your house.  When you're done, learn how to dispose of the waste properly so that it doesn't harm you, your kids, your pets, or the environment.

Sharps, Needles, and Medication

Learn how to protect your family, your patients, our workers, and the environment

Do you use or know someone who uses sharps and needles in their home? If so, Riverside County offers options that helps dispose of sharps and needles safely and easily. Plus, we all need to learn how to simply dispose of medications that we don’t use or have expired so that harmful chemicals don’t end up in the wrong hands or in our water supply.

Duration: 30 - 45 minutes


  • Youth groups, senior groups, civic groups, garden clubs, church groups, homeowner's associations, employee development, department lunch-n-learns.


  • Anywhere in Riverside County. You arrange the location.


  • Group size minimum is 15 people.


  • Requests are considered on a first come, first served basis.


  • Due to the high volume of requests, some requests may not be able to be accomodated.


  • Please note that not all topics may be available for your requested date. In the event a speaker is not available for your selected topic, we will call to discuss alternate options.
